I must respond to the statement of the Open Letter by Leslie Boland about my choice of wording being interesting. Yes, my choice of vernacular is always interesting, but must admit what she said I said, I didn't.

However, I do work as a team to get things done. That is how you get things done.

It does take a majority of council to get things done, that's called democracy. Lately, at least over the last 4-5 months, everything I have put on the agenda has passed with a 4-to-1 vote, or has been unanimous. So much for her complaint about a pack mentality.

The only place “my way or the highway” mentality is evident is on that non-citizen FB complaint page. Go on there and disagree with those folks, talk about pack mentality, like a bunch of wolves ripping others apart for simply expressing themselves or having a different opinion.

As far as “lien” system, she is false again. All municipalities have the same State laws to abide by, same as Irmo does. Maximum 30 days in jail, $500 maximum fine plus court costs. If you don't like court costs, that is State set as well, and not a municipal decision.

All her other statements, again a stretch of the truth, false, and likely purposely misleading. Like the statement “carrying firearms in Irmo is illegal”. It is not. Just a campaign lie by a candidate for Mayor, and evidently accepted by those who don't search for the truth. Anyway, she is not happy with what is happening in Irmo, but most of the rest of Irmo are happy, and glad to see Council address the deterioration of our neighborhoods. Things are looking better, Irmo is on the way up. We recently ranked #3 for the Best Place to Live in SC by Niche.com.

If you remember years ago, she and others claimed they were the majority and wanted chickens. We said no. Last election Walker put a referendum question on the 2017 ballot about allowing chickens or not. The majority of voters said no. Now she wants to say referendum questions this time are “election fodder”. It wasn't two years ago, but now it is? Why? They weren't the majority then, and now they say they are again. We have passed ordinances, yes, about parking in the yard, cutting grass, and minimum home maintenance requirements, and they are against that. So maybe it is only “their way” or the highway. Kinda like the tolerant crowd that gets mad at the others for not agreeing with them.

It is election time in Irmo. I hope you will make the right choice for Irmo for what is best, today, tomorrow, and ten years down the road. For the future of Irmo, moving forward not backwards.
